Leland Burnham - stone mason wizard / construction manager / founding member

Leland Burnham is a founding member.  He has over 15 years of experience as an artist, landscape foreman, stone mason, and construction manager.

With a passion for Stone Art, and a love of natural beauty, Mr. Burnham has a knack for realizing and bringing to life a client's vision through quality craftsmanship and efficiency.  Whether plants & sods, soils & aggregate, or hardscape & natural stone; he works to accomplish the project's goals in an artistically, responsible, and Earth-friendly manner.  His stonework is the talk of our clients!  Leland is Certified in Erosion & Sedimentation Control Practices by the MEDEP.  Leland is also a very talented musician, who in his free time, plays his guitar with purpose and soul.

Ericka Duym - landscape designer / project manager / historic preservation

Ericka Duym, ASLA is a new member to AL+D. From Trenton Maine, Ericka has nearly 20 years of experience in local landscape design and management. Her career background ranges from high-end private estate gardening to large-scale sustainable master site planning / preservation, landscape design education, and digital landscape graphics.

Ms. Duym holds a BS in Landscape Horticulture from UMO, and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Mass-Amherst. Ericka has a passion for landscape history, her experience working within the culturally rich landscapes of MDI have inspired her career and designs. Her work has lead to involvement on many projects of all sizes both in the government, public, and private sector in Massachusetts, Maine, and New York.  In her spare time, Ericka volunteers as a board member for the Bar Harbor Village Improvement Society (VIA), Ellsworth Green Plan / Parks Subcommittee, and the Ledgelawn Cemetery Committee. She is an avid equestrian and herb gardener.

Michael Gillis, PLA, ASLA - landscape architect / coop manager / founding member

Michael Gillis, PLA, ASLA, CLARB, is a founding member.  He has over 25 years of experience as a landscape architect, project manager, designer, and construction representative for projects of varying scales throughout Maine, New England, and Texas.

Mr. Gillis has a diverse range of experience in such projects as; commercial & residential landscape design, land-use master planning, construction administration, sustainable development, graphic & web media, as well as private consultations. Mike is a Maine licensed Landscape Architect #4293. Mike is Certified in Erosion & Sedimentation Control Practices by the MEDEP.

Benny Higgins - landscape worker / stone mason apprentice / happiness engineer

Benjamin Higgins is in his 2nd season at AL+D. Growing up and working many odd jobs on the island, most locals know him as Benny. His daily life reflects his extremely positive, happy, and go-to attitude that we are all extremely fortunate to have him as a AL+D team member. Benny loves to work and contributes to any and all project tasks with gratitude, dedication, and efficiency, always striving to learn through each experience.  As a stone mason apprentice to Leland, he strives for perfection in the craft, and pushes for that at all times.

Benny is a proud husband and father who cherishes his time spent with family. He coaches his kids sport teams and is a diehard Red Sox fan.

Lisa King - landscape gardener / maintenance / moss enthusiast / full member

Lisa King has been working on the island the past 7 years as a landscape gardener.  She has experience working on estate gardens, perennial gardens, native plantings, and light commercial projects.  Lisa has enjoyed gardening since she was a child and has a deep love for flowers and perennials of all kinds, both cultivated and native.

With a passion for native mosses, she studies them in their natural environment and works to cultivate the beauty of moss to her client's homes.  In her spare time, Lisa enjoys being at home in her kitchen where her other passion is cooking with all-natural ingredients.
